The Airport: A review of my favourite pub

Those who know me well will know that I don’t particularly like pubs. I very rarely drink alcohol, and the atmosphere of a pub presses a lot of my anxiety buttons. But when I discovered The Airport, I knew this would be a game changer for me.

The Airport describes itself as “a fantastic pub in a unique location” and I would definitely agree. The pub is located on Ringway Road near Manchester Airport, and the best part? The beer garden looks right out onto the threshold of runway 23-Right. There can’t be many places where you can enjoy a view like this from your table!

Aer Lingus Airbus A320 at Manchester Airport

It is incredible to get up so close to aircraft, and despite the awful weather when I visited on February 19th I got to see several arrivals and departures.

Because I am blind, I often get more out of the sounds things make than looking at them. That’s one of the reasons I love being so close to the airfield here. You can hear the sheer power that these planes have as they spool up to take off.

I am also quite a foodie, and the menu at The Airport doesn’t fail to deliver. There is a wide selection available including burgers, pizzas, wings, salads, steaks and grills. I had The Big Cheesy, an 8oz beef burger with Mexican cheese and smoky bacon, smothered in thick, warm cheese sauce. I followed that up with The Cookie Cream Pie which is 2 home baked chocolate cookies, sandwiched with vanilla ice cream and covered in M&Ms. Both courses were absolutely delicious. Check our the menu here.

Even if you’re not an aviation lover like myself, I’d definitely recommend paying The Airport a visit. The food is delicious and the location is one of a kind. I’ve been perhaps two or three times in the past, but now I’ve moved to live locally I’ll definitely be a regular visitor.
